NaPodPoMo Day 21 – Finding Joy Through Servant Leadership
Welcome to the RadicalRx Show, where we explore radical strategies for living, learning and thriving in this beautiful, messy world. I'm Ellen Martin, your guide on this journey. Today is day 21 of NaPodPoMo, National Podcast Post Month, and I just got home from our Kiwanis Governors Banquet for the division. This is where members come together to meet the new leader of the district. We refer to this district leader as the Governor, not to be confused with the Governor of Ohio who runs the state.
This governor runs the Ohio District of Kiwanis International. Well, it's late and it's way, way past my bedtime, but I wanted to do a quick check in, so I thought I'd talk a little bit about how serving through Kiwanis brings me joy and a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Our club is called the Kiwanis Club of NextGen leaders because we focus on mentoring young people and mentoring the next generation of leaders within the Kiwanis organization.
I love the fellowship of meeting with other Kiwanians, and I love seeing the young people getting involved. At the dinner tonight, we had a table full of young people from the local high schools. I think there were at least three or four high schools represented there, and it just really warmed my heart to see all these young people coming to these meetings because they are the next generation of leaders.
And the thing I love about our club is we meet online. And so that's how I'm able to work in the being part of this club is because we meet online. And so I don't have to go out to meetings if I don't feel like traveling or if I'm having a bad day because of the pain and stuff that can come with having metastatic breast cancer. And I know there's a lot of people out there that wish they could find a way to do some kind of community service or to get out of their own heads and forget for a little bit that they're having this illness that they're dealing with.
And so I'd encourage you to see if there's some kind of community service that you can do that maybe it doesn't require you to go out and have to go places. Maybe you can do it from the comfort of your own computer. And this is something I might take a deep dive into a little bit in the future if there's some interest. So if you want me to talk more about this subject in the future, let me know in the comments because I love talking about this stuff.
I love talking about how we can serve others, how we can mentor others. And I'd love to brainstorm some ideas. So if you want to get on a call and brainstorm with me, I'm up for that too. So anyway, as I said, it's late and I really wanted to get this done so that I could go to bed and also fulfill my commitment to do a podcast every day.
So even though it's late, I'm going to count this for day 21. And I just want to say thank you for joining me on this journey. And as always, don't forget to breathe.
