NaPodPoMo 2024 – Day 9 – If I Stand

Hello, and welcome Back to the RadicalRx Show. I'm Ellen K. Martin, your host. Today is day number nine of NaPodPomo. That's National Podcasting Post Month. And the whole idea is to do one podcast post every day for 30 days. And I've done eight of them so far. But I'll tell you what, I'm getting a little bit tired of sitting in my chair and reading a script, so today I did something a little different.

I'm standing up! Yep, that's right. I'm standing up. And I don't have a script, which you can probably tell because I'll be kind of rambling a little bit, most likely. I think maybe they even call that a little bit of word salad. Anyway, thank you for being here with me.

And… since I'm saying I don't really like talking with the script, and I don't just like talking when there's nobody else there live with me… I'm going to ask something from all of you.

I'm going to ask you to hop on Zoom and do anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, maybe even 20 if we really get into it. But just having a conversation about something having to do with Radical Wellness, Radical Hope, Radical Self Care, or the core of RadicalRx, which is Radical Ownership. And that can be a really controversial topic, but I'll talk about that more in the future.

And I do also want to talk in the future about more about where the history of RadicalRx came, where it came from, because it started out as my personal healing protocol, and then it morphed into this whole thing where it's like, hey, I gotta do a podcast and let me make a community. And so I'm really excited about where it's going because it's just organically growing, and people are telling me that, hey, we want to hear more, we want to get involved.

So I'm going to ask all of you to please get involved. And if you want to get involved, all you have to do is make a note in the comments. So if you're on Facebook, make a Facebook comment, or you can even DM me if you'd like. And if you're on the blog, you can just comment on the blog post. At some point. I'll have a little button on the site where you can press that to get on my calendar, but in the short term, make a comment and I'll send you a link to my calendar so that we can get together and have a conversation and turn it into an episode of the RadicalRx show.

So, again, I did say I'm going to have more information about the origins of RadicalRx on a future episode. But in the short term, I do want to make mention that RadicalRx, was really inspired by the book Radical Remission – Surviving Cancer Against All Odds. The author is Kelly A. Turner, PhD, and she identified nine things that radical survivors– who had what they called a radical remission, which was totally unexpected– they all had about nine things in common. And now she has a new book called Radical Hope, and it identifies a 10th thing, which is HOPE. And I'm not trying to steal her stuff, honestly. I'm really just saying that all this stuff has resonated with me, and so I turned it into what I call my RadicalRx. And on the RadicalRx Show, I want to talk about all the things that really can contribute to healing besides just taking medicine or doing alternative therapies.

And so I call it Hope Without Hubris, because some people have the hubris to think that they can do it all naturally without any conventional medicine. And sometimes you can, but sometimes that's a little bit of hubris. And then on the other side, some people have the hubris to think you can do it all with conventional medicine, and some people do have success with that. And sometimes there's a little bit of hubris there as well.

So my goal is just to have conversations and get the community together so that we can all kind of stand in the middle and find a protocol that is individualized to each and every one of us. And you can call it whatever you want. For me, it just kind of made sense to call it RadicalRx. And again, Radical Remission was the inspiration for that name.

And I will say that I have about 15, maybe even 20 different factors that I've come up with. One of those is Radical Courage. And when I go through them, I'll talk about which ones were inspired by Kelly's nine or now ten radical or radical remission factors, and then I'll talk about what was inspired by other things.

So the core of RadicalRx is Radical Ownership. And Radical Ownership means that we have to take ownership, meaning we say, hey, you know what? I know that I did these things, and the outcome from that was this. And I own that. It doesn't mean I'm bad. There's no shame, no blame. It's just. It just is. I'd made the decision good or bad, and now I own that decision. So that's Radical Ownership. And that was inspired by another book. And that book was called Extreme Ownership. And the title of the book is Extreme Ownership – How US Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.

They were two U.S. navy SEALs that served in Afghanistan. And it's a mix of storytelling and really good leadership principles. And the core of their book is Extreme Ownership. And so I took that and I said, you know what? We have to take Radical Ownership of our own health, of our own lives, of our own decisions. And so that's where RadicalRx and the idea of Radical Ownership came from.

And I will tell the whole story someday, I promise. You just have to keep watching. But today I don't have the energy to, to really drill into the whole history because there's quite a story there and I think it's got to be a longer episode. And I may have to actually sit down for that one because I've been standing for, I don't know, according to the timer, six minutes.

I've been babbling now, so my legs are starting to hurt a little bit because I'm not used to standing that much. But I do say I think I like standing better than sitting in the chair to do these things. So we'll see how I do with longer conversations where I'm standing.

All right, so again, I do want to thank you for being here and I ask that if you want to get on and have a conversation with me again, leave a comment.

If you're on Facebook, leave me a Facebook comment. Send me a direct message in Facebook Messenger. You can reach out there.

If you're seeing me on my blog, then you can, you can leave a comment on the blog or if you see in the header, you may end up seeing a calendar link like “Connect with Ellen or” something like that, or “Be a Guest”. I don't know what it's going to say yet.

We're still working on the website and we're going to have a sign up though, so that people can actually sign up to get on my calendar. But in the short term, if you leave a comment or send me a direct message, I will send you a link back and you can get on my calendar and we'll have maybe 5, 10, 15 minute conversation. And if we really get going, we could, we could do Joe Rogan style and spend three hours talking, but not too likely, especially not standing. But maybe we'll take a break and sit down and then continue the conversation.

But I just want to have some conversations about what's helping you, how do you deal with life's challenges? How do you maintain a positive outlook and hold on to that hope? I know it takes Radical Courage to do some of the things that we do, especially those of us who have been diagnosed with metastatic cancer… In my case, metastatic breast cancer, which they say cannot be cured… I say “hold my beer” because things are changing every day. And I've seen people live 5, 10, 20, 30. And I know of people who've lived 40 years and more with stage four breast cancer. So there's always hope. And we just need the support and the community to come together where we can learn some tools and techniques to help us through this journey.

So, again, thank you so much for being here. And I want to remind you, don't forget to breathe.
